During our time in London—the final stop on our engagement trip—Ben and I couldn’t help but notice a recurring theme: the seamless blending of modern and traditional interiors. Walking through the city, wandering into restaurants, shops, and stunning buildings (which was nearly all of them), I realized how powerful this balance can be. When two seemingly opposite styles meet, they create a curated, harmonious, and truly unique design.

What stood out most was the way ornate details complemented simplicity. This thoughtful restraint and balance showed us that when modern and traditional design are blended, the results can be breathtaking.

Here are a few ways we saw this combination come to life:

Traditional architecture with modern accents: Many interiors showcased historic moldings, fireplaces, or windows paired with sleek furnishings, bold art, and minimalist décor. A great example of this modern installation can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Contrasting yet cohesive details: Even when the majority of furniture leaned modern, traditional elements—such as wallpaper patterns, fixtures, or trim—added depth and character.
